Course Description:
Welcome to the Patient Advocate Certification Review Course. The program was developed to provide those preparing for a career in patient advocacy and those sitting for the Board Certified Patient Advocate Certification Exam.
The course was developed by Anne Llewellyn, a nurse advocate, Board-Certified Patient Advocate, and national leader in patient advocacy. Anne was one of the founding members of the Patient Advocate Certification Board and part of the original committee to launch the first exam.
This course is designed to explain the body of knowledge that the Patient Advocate Certification Board has developed to guide patient advocacy practice. The course provides examples to illustrate the theory and show how it is used in day-to-day practice.
Advocacy is a broad practice with advocates working in various areas. The exam tests the fundamentals of the practice that all advocates are expected to uphold. We hope you find the course useful in preparing for the Patient Advocate Certification Exam and for practicing as a patient advocate. This course can be part of an introduction to patient advocacy practice for people who are new to advocacy. It can also serve as a refresher to help more seasoned advocates on the basics as they grow in the practice.
How to use this course:
This online course allows you to listen and study at your own pace. You can listen to the sessions as long as you want, as many times as you want, and take a break when you need to. When you’re ready to come back, whether a few minutes, days, or weeks later, your course will be waiting for you. You can review the course as many times as you wish at no additional charge.
This course is meant to complement the body of knowledge that the Patient Advocate Certification Board has published on its website for people preparing to sit for the certification exam. It also serves as foundational information for people preparing to enter patient advocacy practice.
We suggest that you read the information and listen to the presentations. As you do, you will recognize areas that might need additional study. This course is designed as a resource for those who want to have an organized course of study and visibility into the practice of patient advocacy.
This course was developed by Anne Llewellyn and contains her interpretations of the materials.
